Since its launch in 2003 as the first-ever 24-hour Christian youth network, JCTV has gained a well-deserved reputation for airing programs that are gritty, real, and life-changing. “Right from the start we committed to searching out the types of cutting-edge shows that would attract the niche audience of teens and twenty-somethings we were really interested in reaching,” recalled JCTV’s program director Mark McCallie. “And from day-one we’ve been able to consistently come up with the music, relevant talk, extreme sports, and reality shows that are entertaining, impacting—and that get thumbs-up from our viewers.”
JCTV’s 2011 fall season is no exception to that rule, as it rolls out three new reality shows that take viewers into the daily lives of men and women who are living out their faith in the exciting and breakneck world of music and global outreach.
Leading off that trio is Mari White Presents the Newsboys, a unique weekly show that goes on the road with one of the most popular and successful contemporary bands of all time. With 25 number-one hits and over six million records sold in their two-decade success story, the Newsboys have appealed to multiple generations of Christian music lovers. But be prepared: this ten-week TV reality tour, created by actress and producer Mari White, will take you far beyond the music to show you how faith has shaped and impacted the lives of these artists and performers. Through hours of unscripted video footage, viewers are given a birds-eye view of all that it means to be part of this iconic Christian band, joining members the boys on the tour bus, in the recording studio, on stage, and more. “Over the years, our fans have seen small glimpses of our offstage moments,” noted Newsboys keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein. “But now we are excited to share … exclusive, never-before-seen footage. Our fans will get a chance to hear more about our hearts, our families, and our ministry.” Catch Mari White Presents the Newsboys on JCTV, Mondays and Fridays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 12 Noon (Pacific Time).
A second exciting addition to the JCTV lineup is Global Ventures, a show that takes viewers into the world of global missions veteran John Smithwick as he leads young people into areas where whole communities have never heard the message of the gospel. Over the past 15 years, Smithwick has taken teams and conducted crusade ministries around the world, recording almost 1.4 million decisions for Christ, along with nearly 10,000 instances of miracles and healings. This time a camera team comes along to catch the unscripted moments as inexperienced team members walk through the dramatic process of becoming bold witnesses of God’s power to heal and transform broken lives. “There is nothing like experiencing first-hand the power of Christ transforming people,” said Smithwick. “This powerful program records those very experiences, both in the lives of the people where we minister, as well as among our team members. Global Ventures is street-level faith caught on video. It’s life-changing reality TV.” Debuting November 2nd on JCTV, Global Ventures airs Wednesdays and Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 3 a.m. (Pacific Time).
Finally, imagine a young married couple who feel a strong call from God to missions—but who have absolutely no idea how to move ahead with their dream of building a worldwide ministry. That’s the theme of The Revolutionary Life, the weekly reality show that follows Dustan and Darlene Stanley through fourteen months of traveling the world, preaching the gospel, and learning useful—and sometimes difficult—lessons about walking by faith and fulfilling God’s purposes. Viewers join the couple as they travel from Indonesia to London, staying in homes and getting their first glimpse at the everyday world of ministering God’s love to real people. “Our goal in creating this series is to open the door for the Lord to speak to viewers about the world and His love for it,” said Dustan Stanley, who personally produced the series. “If we could accomplish anything, it would be to have thousands accept the call to live the “Revolutionary Life” of the gospel—in their hometowns and neighborhoods and to the ends of the earth.” Debuting November 2nd on JCTV, The Revolutionary Life airs Mondays at 3 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. (Pacific Time).
Dr. Paul Crouch, founder and president of TBN, JCTV’s parent network, said the new shows are representative of TBN’s commitment to broadcast programming that entertains and inspires while challenging people in their faith. “For nearly 40 years we’ve been driven by one vision,” he said—“to help build the kingdom of God through quality Christian television. And we never cease to be thankful for the success and blessing God has given us in that mission.”
