For nearly two decades, the Smile of a Child Foundation has been meeting needs and sharing the love of Jesus with children across the globe. Founded and overseen by Jan Crouch, wife of TBN’s founder Paul Crouch, the Smile of a Child Foundation is a year round effort to provide toys to thousands of hurting children in need around the world. Each toy received by children has the clear and concise message of Jesus’ love and a prayer of salvation attached. To date, the Smile of a Child Foundation has distributed thousands of toys across Haiti, South America, Africa, Asia and the South Pacific.
In addition to its central focus of sharing the love of Jesus by distributing toys, the Smile of a Child Foundation has also given thousands of bibles away, including 5,000 French language bibles to children in Haiti—a country so devastatingly affected by natural disaster and in desperate need of the hope of Jesus. Two-thirds of the bibles were given to various schools and orphanages in Haiti with the remaining bibles given to the Haitian school and orphanage sponsored by the SOAC foundation.
Partnering with Friend Ships , a compassion-focused ministry located in Lake Charles, Lousiana, the Smile of a Child Foundation has been active in sending aircraft carriers and cargo ships to impoverished areas of Haiti and New Orleans post-Hurricane Katrina. The ships provided humanitarian aid supplies including over 20 tons of food, clothing, medicines, medical personnel, six fire trucks and three ambulances.
Permanent medical clinics in Costa Rica, Haiti and Afghanistan have been sponsored by a collaborative effort between the Smile of a Child Foundation and Samaritan’s Purse, a non-profit organization founded by Franklin Graham. While receiving care in the clinic, patients are told about the love and healing power of Jesus.
The partnership between the Smile of a Child Foundation and Samaritan’s Purse has extended past medical clinics into giving shoeboxes filled with hygienic necessities, toys and treats to children in Iraq. The Smile of a Child Foundation has also sponsored a facial reconstruction surgery for a girl in Kenya who had been mauled by a wild hyena. The foundation continues its work of showing the love of Christ in practical, tangible ways.
The United Nations recognized the Smile of a Child Foundation in May 2009 for the foundation’s work helping world leaders alleviate poverty and improve the lives of children around the world.
