Andrew Wommack is a pastor who is featured on TBN, the network founded by Paul Crouch. Andrew is the president and founder of Charis Bible College in Colorado and the host of The Gospel Truth, which appears weekly on TBN and daily on the radio. In Andrew’s words, the purpose of the broadcast is to “teach the truth of the Gospel to the body of Christ with special emphasis on God’s unconditional love and the balance between grace and faith.”
Andrew and his wife Jamie began their public ministry in 1976. The couple traveled to Childress, Texas and began to share the gospel in a small rented building. God kept them in Texas for two years and Andrew found an opportunity to start the very first broadcasts of The Gospel Truth on a local country and western station. Then they relocated to Pritchett, Colorado to pastor a church there. It wasn’t long before a friend felt led to finance Andrew’s return to the radio. Those few months would prove to be the only interruption in the broadcast over the last thirty years.
In 1993, the Wommack’s started Charis Bible College in Colorado Springs. 2 Timothy 2:2 had a profound impact on Andrew. In his own words, he learned the Bible through the school of hard knocks and wouldn’t recommend that method to anyone. He saw a great need for formal and practical education for the ministry. Charis believes that academics alone are not enough to prepare someone for ministry. On the website they state, “We strive for a balance between knowledge of Scripture and practical ministry experiences.” Students spend almost as much time in practical ministry experience as they do in the classroom.
